Industry Collaboration

Industry Collaboration

We welcome collaboration with industry partners of all sizes, across a broad range of sectors, including structural engineering, energy, infrastructure, transportation, insurance, and beyond. If your work involves lifecycle assessment, risk-informed decision-making, or performance evaluation under uncertainty, there is a strong opportunity for us to work together. Collaboration does not need to start with a fully defined problem. In many cases, it begins with a conversation. You may have a challenge in mind, an idea you want to explore, or simply a curiosity about what is possible. We encourage you to reach out. We can discuss your needs, identify opportunities, and determine whether there is a meaningful path forward. Sometimes this leads to a defined research project. Sometimes it is simply a useful exchange of ideas. Both are valuable. If you are based in Edmonton, we are always happy to meet in person over coffee or lunch on campus. Otherwise, we can easily connect virtually.

Leveraging Funding and Building Partnerships

One of the key advantages of working with our group is our extensive experience in developing and leading funded industry-academic collaborations. We actively structure projects to leverage major funding programs, including NSERC Alliance, Mitacs Accelerate, and Alberta Innovates, among others. We take the lead in:

  • Identifying the most suitable funding pathway for your needs
  • Structuring the collaboration to maximize leverage
  • Preparing and submitting competitive proposals
  • Managing the project framework once funded

This approach allows industry partners to significantly amplify their investment while accessing advanced research capabilities, highly qualified personnel, and state-of-the- art methodologies.

What You Can Expect

Our collaborations are designed to deliver both immediate value and long-term impact. Depending on the project, outcomes may include:

  • Predictive and data-driven models for decision-making
  • Advanced computational and simulation-based assessments
  • Risk and reliability-informed evaluation frameworks
  • Practical tools and methodologies that can be integrated into your workflows

A central component of our work is the training of highly qualified personnel. Through collaboration, you gain access to graduate students and researchers who are trained specifically on your problem context. This creates a direct pipeline of talent familiar with your challenges, tools, and objectives.

How to Get Started

The process is simple.

Send an email to start a conversation. We will schedule a time to meet, either in person or virtually, to discuss your interests and explore potential directions for collaboration.

From there, we can jointly define the scope, identify funding opportunities, and build a partnership that aligns with your technical and strategic goals.
